Steinway K-132
The Pianist Magazine - Steinway K-132
Steinway sees the typical model K customer as a serious pianist who doesn’t have room for a grand but wants an upright made to the same standards. The K 132 has been around a long time (‘the best piano possible cannot be improved,’ says Steinway), with its genesis back in the 19th century. But it was revolutionary when launched, introducing the pressure bar system, now the most widely used method in modern uprights, to secure the treble strings. Features it shares with Steinway’s grands include identical materials, the construction for the soundboard and pinblock, and the patented duplex scale. The K 132 comes in three high-polish finishes (ebonised, mahogany or white) and in satin walnut. But Steinway points out that there are also uprights in its Crown Jewel Collection (along with Limited Edition options) for those who’d rather Indian apple, burl walnut, pommelé mahogany, ice birch and the like.
