Montague

1920's Montague German Concert Upright

A tall, Walnut veneered reconditioned overstrung upright, with commanding rich tone, full and rounded. Handbuilt by master craftsmen in Eisenberg, Germany, with large soundboard and long strings for broader depth of tone. It's a great sounding piano and was previously owned by Helmut Seeber who came to Ireland from Germany in 1954 to join the then Raidió Éireann Symphony Orchestra as oboe and cor anglais player. During his career, Helmut played with many ensembles including the New Irish Chamber Orchestra and also taught at the Royal Irish Academy of Music for many years. Helmut was also an accomplished pianist and the piano was a wedding gift from his wife Patsy. Helmut passed away in 2016 and Patsy in 2017. May they Rest In Peace.

We have reconditioned the internal action and keys, the strings are cleaned, bushings replaced, and piano is regulated and tuned to Concert Pitch. The piano is ideal for all levels of player, from beginner to advanced. Bear in mind that the piano is tall, with a large depth and width, and would suit a home where access is easy and no tight turns. But because it is big, the sound and presence is big too, and is a really nice piano to play, as it was all its life. The built and quality of the internal components is high and Montague are a top maker. The bass register is potent and very strong, right down to the last note, and this overstrung gets top marks for sound quality.
